Eligibility

Determining your eligibility to become a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Kansas.

If you have documentation that leads you to believe you may be descended from a passenger on the Mayflower voyage of 1620 that terminated on the shores of New England at Plymouth and are over (18) years of age you may be eligible to join the Society. All so descended, who are less than (18) years of age may be eligible for Junior Membership.

Your preliminary application must give the full name of each ancestor along with documentation for each person.

The highest and best documentation is the vital records of such ancestors. These are the birth, marriage, and death certificates of each person. Other documentation may be acceptable such as published genealogies and other official records. Sources for this type of information is too voluminous to be listed here. Most libraries, various genealogical associations, including those on the Internet may be able to provide assistance. The State Historian of your State Society of Mayflower Descendants may be able to provide limited assistance also.

If you have a blood relative who is a member of the Society they may be able to provide you with a copy of their lineage paper which will greatly reduce the magnitude of your task.

CAUTION: If the relative's lineage was approved prior to 1984 you may be required to submit additional, or upgraded documentation.

When approved by our Historian your application will then be submitted to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The Historian General of the General Society will review, make corrections if applicable, and finally approve or disapprove the application. Your application will then be returned to the our Historian for appropriate action.

A sample application form is available that may help you organize your information prior to contacting our Historian.

For more information contact the Corresponding Secretary, The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Kansas.
