Eligibility

This is an aid in determining your eligibility to become a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Kansas and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Applicants must submit proof of lineage documentation with their application form.

If you have documentation that leads you to believe you may be descended from a passenger on the Mayflower voyage of 1620 that terminated on the shores of New England at Plymouth and are over (18) years of age you may be eligible to join the Society for Senior Membership. All so descended, who are less than (18) years of age may be eligible for Junior Membership.

The highest and best documentation is the vital records of such ancestors. These are the birth, marriage, and death certificates of each person. Other documentation may be acceptable such as published genealogies, census and other official records. Sources for this type of information are too voluminous to be listed here. Most libraries, various genealogical associations, including those on the Internet may be able to provide assistance. The State Historian of your State Society of Mayflower Descendants may be able to provide limited assistance also, or the State Historian may direct you to a person who can.

The Preliminary Preview offered by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants is an excellent tool to use in determining if one or more persons have approved membership applications on your line of ancestors. It may save you time and money.

If you have a blood relative who is a member of the Society they may be able to provide you with a copy of their lineage paper which will greatly reduce the magnitude of your task.

CAUTION: If the relative's lineage was approved prior to 1984 you may be required to submit additional or upgraded documentation.
